Tao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy is an official publication of the Association of Chinese Philosophers in America, through the Global Publications of the State University of New York at Binghamton. The journal aims to serve as a bridge between Chinese philosophy/philosophers and non-Chinese philosophy/philosophers. Published semi-annually, it welcomes submissions from philosophers of all ethnic groups. The journal is dedicated to publish articles and book reviews in comparative studies between Chinese philosophy and any other philosophical traditions in the world, including but not limited to Western philosophy, Islamic philosophy, African philosophy, Indian philosophy, Japanese philosophy, and Korean philosophy, in any philosophical disciplines, including but not limited to metaphysics, epistemology, logic and philosophy of language, ethics, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of mind, as well as articles dealing with theories and methodologies of comparative philosophy.
All submissions to the journal will be blind-reviewed. At least two specialists, in addition to the editor, will read and evaluate each submission. Normally authors may expect to hear from the editor about the suitability of their submissions for publication in the journal in no more than two months. Authors should retain a copy of their manuscript, as no submissions will be returned. We accept electronic submission through e-mail attachment unless there are special fonts and graphs that cannot be read. Submissions with hard copies should be accompanied with a disk copy saved in Word format. Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout, in the main text and in the apparatus, using normal fonts (12), and, in general, not exceeding 30 pages excluding bibliography. The journal adopts the Chicago Manual of Style (14th edition) with in-text citations (Author(s) date, page number, as “Cua 1985, 101”) with a bibliography at the end (author’s family name, given name, publication year, full book or article title, publication place, and publisher, as “Tu, Weiming 1979, Humanity and Self-Cultivation: Essays in Confucian Thought, Berkeley, CA: Asian Humanities Press). Footnotes instead of endnotes are adopted. Use Hanyu Pingyin for proper names of Chinese persons, places, publishers, etc., followed by their original Chinese characters in the parenthesis. Special Chinese philosophical terms, as well as the titles of Chinese publications, should be translated into English, followed by their original Chinese characters in the parenthesis. Upon request, a style sheet will be provided.
