存 有 ( 是 ) ( o n ) 為 西 方 哲 學 形 上 學 之 基 本 核 心 課 題 。 柏 拉 圖 亞 理 斯 多 德 之 存 有 論 ( 是 論 ) ( o n t o l o g y ) 奠 立 西 方 存 有 論 ( 是 論 ) 之 綱 維 矩 矱 。 本 讀 書 會 輯 錄 柏 氏 中 後 兩 期 及 亞 氏 兩 型 存 有 論 之 基 本 文 本 五 份 , 各 一 次 研 讀 之 。

Suggested translations:
1. The Republic of Plato, translated with notes and an interpretative essay by Al-lan Bloom (New York: Basic Books, 1968). A literal translation, a classic among the English translations of Plato’s Republic, for advanced learners.
2. Plato, Republic, translated with introduction by C. D. C. Reeve (Indianapolis/ Cam?bridge: Hackett Publishing Company, 2004). Balance between literality and readability, for serious beginners.
3. Plato, Republic, translation, glossary, and introductory essay by Joe Sachs, with an afterword by John White (Newburyport MA: Focus Publishing, R. Pullins Company, 2007). A de-Latinized literal translation with readability, for advanced learners as well as serious beginners.
Text 3: Aristotle, On Categories 1-5.

5. Aristotle, On Categories, in Aristotle: Selections, translated, with introduction, notes, and glossary, by Terence Irwin and Gail Fine (Indianapolis/Cambridge: Hackett Publishing Com?pany, 1995). With strong intervention of the translators (dividing chapters into sections and paragraphs, giving titles to chapters and sections, especially adding words, phrases and clauses, etc.) to help readers understand the text, but sometimes disputable, for serious beginners.
